1.) Tennis Ball Chair Leg Covers The most traditional types of covers for your chair legs are the tennis ball covers. This involves one tennis ball on each of the legs, and is a quick addition to any hard leg tip to make it soft and prevent if from scratching anything. All you need is four tennis balls (per piece of furniture, a knife, and your chairs. You will want to cut a hole into the top of each tennis ball for the leg to fit in. It helps to cut out a nice star shape in the ball, which allows for the opening to form fit to the chair leg and keep it on a little longer. These are the cheapest and simplest to do, if you’re not worried about the appearance. 2.) Rubber Chair Leg Covers These may also be referred to as chair leg caps and form fit to the bottom of the chair. The are very common for people who want to maintain a nice barrier between the legs of the chairs and the floor surface. Unlike the innovative tennis ball approach, rubber chair leg covers don’t stand out as much on the foot of the chair, and thus give a nicer appearance to the overall look of your furniture. This approach to protecting your floors and chair legs is recommended more for indoor fixes, and the tennis ball approach is recommended for outdoor solutions, as they also help keep the chair legs from sinking into the soil if placed on anything other than concrete. 3.) Felt Chair Leg Covers More expensive than rubber, but more aesthetically pleasing, are felt chair leg covers. These protectors have felt on one side, and an adhesive on the other side which allows them to stick to the bottoms of the chair leg. As they are placed beneath the chair leg and not wrapped around it in any way, these covers cannot be seen by anyone, and are preferred by the most people to preserve the good looks of their furniture. These protectors are used in most modern day homes which have beautiful, expensive hardwood floors. Using chair leg covers is highly recommended by many furniture and hardwood floor specialists, alike. They will preserve the floor surfaces and keep the bottoms of the chair legs from getting dinged up and damaged over time from use. We recommend felt chair leg covers over the other two, to preserve the natural look of your furniture, and recommend using the tennis ball approach in situations where appearance is not a concern. |
